1. Describe Reynie. Reinie is a different boy, he is very unique because he doesn't listen to the radio or watches TV. He reads the newspaper, which the other kids don't do.
2. On page five, it states that Reynie looked for solitude and freedom from persecution. What does this mean? Use evidence from the text to support your answers. I think it means that since he doesn't do what other kids do, he doesn't want to be bullied and questioned, so he goes away from everyone else.
3. Why would Reynie break his pencil in half for someone that he didn't even know? I think he did because he realized that if he was her, he wouldn't want the girl to say know.
4. On page 17, it states that Reynie, "felt the weight of loneliness upon him." Why? What happened, use evidence to support your answers. Reynie thought the girl was a oddball, and she may not like him if he didn't take the answers, and may not talk to him.
5. Is cheating ever ok? How and why did Reynie resist the temptation? In a recent book I read, the Hunger Games, you had to sort-of Cheat, because if you didn't, you wouldn't survive. However in this situation, the way the pencil lady was about cheating, I agree with Reynie. I wouldn't have.
6. Why are rules made? Why are those so many rules in chapter one? I think the reason there are so many rules because there could be people against the Mysterious Benedict Society, and they need to be strict with the rules.

1. Reynie says he doesn't like television. Do you believe him? Why or why not? I think I believe him because he seams like a honest person, and he is an oddball.
2. Why is it important for this team to work together? It is important for the team to work together because there wouldn't be any way to pass the test, they need encouragement.
3. At the beginning of the chapter Rhonda doesn't seem upset at all - why? I confused, I don't know why Rhonda would be upset, but I think she is happy for them to pass the tests.
4. Describe Kate and Sticky. Who do you think are the protagonist and antagonist of the story so far? Kate is and energetic girl who carries a bucket around of things. She is an oddball. Sticky is a kid with glasses, who is nervous and ha little self-confidence. They both don't have parents. I think the antagonist so far is Constance, she seems a little wierd.
1. What is the most important test the children passed in order to be selected? I think the most important test was the last one, it took lots of thought and skill.
2. How are they tested? They are tested on a lot of trick questions to get in, questions a normal kid wouldn't find out.
3. Why doesn’t it seem to matter that all the children solve the problem in a different way? The children all solved it in Unique ways, and clever ways, so it only matters if they complete it.
4. What is narcolepsy? How does this affect Mr. Benedict? Narcolepsy is a disorder that triggers uncontrollable sleep. He falls asleep when he is feeling strong emotion.
5, Where is Zambia? Find out two interesting facts about this place. Zambia is a country that is surrouded by other country's.The country used to belong to the United Kingdom. Zambia is in southern Africa.
6. Is Bembi a real language? I think it is because Sticky knew the definition by heart, and he couldn't make it up.
7. Why do you think Mr. Benedict wants this group of children for an important assignment? I think he wants them because they all have unique abilitys, so they could be useful.
8. What does the word " vexed" mean and how is it used in these two chapters? Vexed means to annoy or be annoyed, and that fits in with the book because the Pencil Lady wouldn't tell him anything, so it was annoying.

1.With so much in common, Kate, Reynie, Sticky, and Constance still have dissimilar traits. What are the traits they possess that bring them together? I think what brings them together is there unique ability's. For Sticky, his intellegence is good. Kate can use her surroundings to protect her. Reynie asks good questions that no one else would ask. And, Constance is still unknown.
2. What causes discord among the team members? I think what causes discord is because there are still many holes between them, and they lack some ablility's that are needed.
3. What in their backgrounds and family life is similar? What is dissimilar? All the children's parents are dead. However, they are still thriving on their own. What makes them dissimilar is the way they got to the testing.
4. How do the likenesses play a role in their assignment? They all play a roll in the assignment because this specific case involves there certain skills that they have.

1. Why do you think that Mr. Benedict is telling the children to pay attention to what the Institute doesn't teach? I think he is because he wants the children to blend in as much as possible.
2. What is Morse code? Who invented this communication system and what was it used for? Morse code is a system that involves dots and dash's to communicate. For example, A in morse code is .-. It is mostly ussed for communication for world war one and two. Samual Morse was the inventor of Morse code.
3. Mr. Benedict on page 119 states, "Whether you always agree is inconsequential,..." What does this mean? How does this fit into the definition of a team? I think it means that agreeing is important, because on their own, they are harmless. This fits into the team because they tend to argue a lot.
4. When Sticky tells about his background, he says that philanthropists began sending his parents money, what are philanthropists? It also says that Sticky was astonished and mortified - about what? Philanthropists are people who study human welfare. He was astonished at how his parents treated him, to make them rich. They didn't care about Sticky.
5. Constance had a breakthrough on page 124, describe this event.
6. Milligan has amnesia and wears disguises - why? Milligam wears disguises because from his own life, he could run into enemeys that he doesn't remember.
7. At the end of the chapter, Milligan couldn't look at the children - why? I think the reason he couldn't look at the children because he couldn't remember when he was a child, so he feels left out.
8. What is the "unintended consequence" mentioned on page 135? It means that something happened in the past that is effective now, but it was never supposed to happen.
9. Describe the Sender. The Sender is Mr. Benedict's long lost twin, with a nose that is shaped like a pickle who is very mysterious.
10. Why was Reynie doubting his trust for Mr. Benedict? I think Reynie thinks that this Society is very wiered, he doesn't feel comfortible around him.
11. What does the word "forged" mean on page 136? Forged means to bend into shape, and Mr. Benedict is doing that in a good way.
12. Again, why do you think that Constance is an important part of the team? Your answer should reflect change from the last time we discussed this. I feel she is impotant to the team for intterogation, she dosen't give up, which could be helpful in other areas as well.
13. Why is Mr. Benedict commonly found on the floor? He is mostly on the floor I think because he could fall asleep at any moment, so he has to be careful.
14. How could Constance we the key to the team's success? She could find out what is going on on the island, so the teem could stop whatever is happening.
15. On page 143, why is Reynie thanking Mr. Benedict? I think he is because Mr. Benedict has taught him so much, and he has only been there for two days.
16. What is The Mysterious Benedict Society? I think the mysterious Benedict Society is a secret agency that is ignored by the government, and they stop things from happening.

1. How are you enjoying this book so far? What questions do you currently have about this book that you think will be answered as we continue with the book? I feel in this book they are leaving out clues, so it makes it more interesting. It leaves a lot of questions in my mind. Why would Constance be chosen?
2. Who are the executives and what is their job? What's the difference between a messenger and an executive?
3. Describe Jackson and Jillson. What do you think their role is in this book? I think there roll is in the book is to supervise what goes on around the school.
4. On page 160 it states that Kate was, "trying to prove she didn't need anyone's help and this was easiest to believe when she was doing what she was good at." What do you think this means? I think it means in order for Kate to prove herself, she had to do something she was good at, and that's what she did.
5. The end of the chapter ends with a cliff-hanger. What is a cliff-hanger and why it important? A cliif-hanger is where at the end of a chapter an writer gives us lots of suspense. These are important so the reader is itching to read on.
Traps and Nonsense
6. Why do you think there was a trap disguised with a plant on top? Do you think this will be important later in the book? What is that called when an author gives you clues as to what is going to occur further into the book? It is called inffering. We can infer that that trap was a trap, not a mind shaft, because they wouldn't disguise the traps.
7. Who are the helpers? The helpers are the people who cook, do the laundry, and clean up. There not supposed to talk to the kids.
8. On page 166, the phrase "Whatever floats your boat," is an idiom. What is an idiom and what does this phrase mean?
9. What do you think about the Institute having no rules? How is this statement contradicted? I don't think that statement is true. They always say, you may go anywhere but stay on the paths, or you may talk but there must be no sound.
10. What is a free market? Why do they have to memorize a chant about the free market? A free market is where the food is based on the supply and demand or in this case, all the food is free. I think why they have to memerize a chant is because the kids could take advantage of the free market.

1. On page 174 it states that the new kids always felt "conspicuous," what does this word mean? Conspicuous means see things or observe things easily.
2. What are the "recruiters" and "Institute scouts" that they are referring to? They are referring to the kids they captured, that is there undercover name.
3. What clues are mentioned in the book that might suggest that the new arrivals might have been kidnapped? Use text evidence in your answer. In the book they were saying that there were new arrivals every day, however, they seemed like they were brain washed.
4. Describe Mr. Curtain. Mr. Curtain is the exact same as Mr. Benedict, except in a wheel chair.
5. Could Mr. Curtain and Mr. Benedict be the same person? That would be impossible because they saw Mr. Curtain in the plaza and they were sending a message to Mr. Benedict.
6. Why would everything be backwards at the institute? What might their reasons for this be? That is a possibility, since good is the opposite of bad, that could be true. I believe since the senders are using Reverse Psychology, which reverse is the opposite of forward, or Regular Psychology.
7. What does the word "sasquatch" mean that is mentioned on page 179? Sasquach is another term for bigfoot.
8. What is a cryptic message and why would this be important? A cryptic message is a message that is a riddle so that if someone finds and decodes the society's messages they wont know what it means.
9. On page 184 it states, "As is always the case with a society, some arguing remained to be done." Is this true and why might this be important to all societies? Argument is important to all groups because it means all the members are thinking.
10. What is "gemini" and why is this word important to this chapter? A gemini is a sign of birth between May 21 and June 20. This word made the children understand the message that they were trying to interpret.

1. Why do you think that no mirrors can be found at the Institute? I think the reason they can't have mirrors at the institute because if a brainwashed student saw himself, he might regain his memory.
2. Find the idiom on page 188 and explain what it means. The idiom is when the teacher was talking about stichings in time, and that it saves time, so when you put in effort into saving time, you do save time.
3. What do you think of the statement, found on page 189, "Because it was impossible, in the end, to protect yourself from anything - no matter how hard you tried - it was important to try as hard as you could to protect yourself from everything." What does it mean in the story and what does it mean in life? It means that to survive in the world, you have to try your hardest to interpret what life throws at you.
4. Why would SQ say she was "astounded or astonished" when Sticky and Reynie had received perfect scores? Why would this upset Martina? I think the reason she was astonished because since most the students at the school are brainwashed, so no one has lots of intelligence at the school. This would upset Maria because she could be very confused, and she wouldn't understand that.
5. What lessons had the kids learned in this chapter? What would this chapter be named, "Lessons Learned?" I think the reason the chapter is called this because the children are learning what is going on at the institute and what they have to do.
6. The Helpers "averted" their eyes and had a "constant show of deference," why and what does this mean? It means that they didn't make eye contact, or they were just mostly different, they almost didn't feel emotion, like they were slaves.
7. Why do you think that Mr. Curtain often was looking toward the bridge and off into the distance? I think he was to make sure no one was spying on him, and maybe he would be sending a message.
8. On page 201 it says that the corridor erupted into a "cacophony," what does this mean? It means they erupted with noise, and the noise wasen't together.
9. Why wouldn't the students want to go to the Waiting Room? Use text evidence to support your answer. At the end of the chapter, two boys were talking about the waiting room, but they wouldn't give any ideas, and I think it is where they brain wash.

1. What does the simile "his eyelids felt heavy as anvils" mean? That simile means that he was really tired because his eyes were droopy, or as heavy as anvils. Anvils are those things that are heavy that always appear in cartoons.
2. On page 210, Jackson stated, "You can say whatever you like when you have permission, right now no one has permission." What is he referring to? He was talking about raising your hand, and he meant no one could talk.
3. On page 211, Sticky could feel the "malice," what does this mean? He meant he really wanted to do harm to someone.
4. Why is this chapter called Logical Conclusions and Miscalculations? I think the reason it was called Logical Conclusions and Miscalculations because they found out great information, however, they were wrong by Kate tying the bully's shoes to the desk, and they already have enemeys.
5. How does fruit fit in with the discussion of taxes, war, health, the justice system.....? The apple represents the people. When the government goes bad the apple goes bad, and vise versa.
6. The symbol poison apples, poison worms refers to what? It refers to the government being the apple and the people being the worms. When there is a poison apple, there is a poisoned worm.
7. Reynie looked at the literal meaning of being poisoned, was he wrong? Explain your reasoning. He could be wrong, because the Institute would be against the government, so they want to poison the worms, the people.
8. On page 216, it states that, "Most of us will simple feel irritable and confused." Have you heard this before? Where and what were they referring to? They were talking about the messages being sent, and it mas making them confused. I have not heard this before.
9. Mr. Benedict told the children that their love for the truth will protect them, what does this mean?
10. Why can Constance hear the Messenger's voice? Constance has a mind that is very open, so she receives the messages.
11. Explain the response the children got from the mainland on page 219.
12. Why is it so important that the children become Messengers as quickly as possible? They need to become messengers fast because they will get privileges that the other kids don't, which could be helpful to the mission.
13. What does the word "evasively" mean at the bottom of page 222? It means that they were going to have to trick some one, to get what they want.
14. Why couldn't Charlie explain about the special privileges? I think he couldn't because it could involve getting brainwashed, or involving the illegal messages being sent.

1. Why was Reynie jealous? Reynie was jellous that someone else got the messenger spot because he was working so hard, but he wasn't to the messenger level yet.
2. On page 236, it says that Mr. Curtain rolled his chair almost "imperceptibly", what does this mean? It meant that he rolled his wheel chair fast, at a even pace.
3. "If you don't trust them, keep them close." What does this mean and why would Reynie say this statement? It meant that if someone doesn't trust you, try everything to make them trust you.
4. What is a sense of "deja vu?" (page 238) It is a sense that you remember a time that you didn't remember before, and sometimes it can be a bad memerey.
5. "Control is always the key." What is this supposed to mean? When you have control over something, it is almost impossible to fail. If you have less control of something, it is more likely to fail.

1. Why is this chapter called Of Families Lost and Found?
2. On page 254, it states, "What has been lost may yet be found, Have hope." What does this message from the mainland mean? It means that since they found out what Mr. Curtian is doing, they really have nothing more to do, so they must find out what is in Mr.Cutian's book.
3. Respond to Reynie's idea of what a family might be all about, "I have no experience, but well, is this what family is like? The feeling that everyone's connected, that with one piece missing the whole thing's broken?" "When you lose a family member, you feel like your whole family has been torn apart, but your only missing one piece. You have to refill that piece."
4. On page 257, it, "family is often born of blood, but it doesn't depend on blood." What does this mean? It means that even your best friend could be part of your family. You must treat everyone the same as your family.
5. What was the cliff hanger in the chapter Of Families Lost and Found? I think the reason there was a cliff hanger is because the book hit a dead spot, and the auther needed to keep the suspence going.
6. Why do you think that family is such an important theme that is woven in and out of almost each chapter? I think there is a lot of talk about family is that these kids have no real home, so now, they are kind of a family.
7. What does "Tactical Caciupi" mean and why would the author name this chapter that title? Tactial Capiupi means to think around something to solve something, and the Society figured out how to figure out what was in Mr. Curtain's book.
8. Why would Mr. Curtain say that one of his biggest accomplishments would be the invention of his tidal turbines? Explain what these are and how might they be used on the island. They are used around the world for creating electricity,water spins the turbine creating electricity. They could be used at the island for that reason.
9. What was Kate using her spy glass/kaleidoscope for? Kate was using her spyglass to look at the corners of the pages when Mr. Curtain put the book marks in.
10. Knowing Sticky's talents, what do you think he is being used for when it comes to the journal? I think the reason they are using him is because he has a photographic memerey.
11. On page 267, the first entry is read and one part states, "There is no such thing as perfect control. I have come to understand, however, that the illusion of perfect control can amount to the same thing." What does this mean and what implications might this have on the story? It means that he is unable to get perfect control of the students, and this is the final proof that he is the one who is sending the messages out.
12. How can you have an illusion of control? You could have a dream, and the dream could give you an idea on how to control people.
13. Explain "brainsweeping." Brainsweeping is wiping out your memerey of every moment, and because that wiped away every moment that made you happy, so you became very sad.
14. Why aren't the special recruits every scared? The aren't scared because since they were brainsweeped, they were told to do things a certain way, the right way.
15. What do you think the "improvement" is that they are talking about on page 270? It is called the improvement because they solved a huge part, they figured out why everyone is so sad.
16. What do you think his message on page 272 means? I think it means that it is a pre-message that has not been sent out yet.

1. Why is this chapter called, "Caught in the Act"? This chapter is called caught in the act because Sticky got caught giving Constance answers, so he was sent to the waiting room.
2. On page 277 it says, "precipice." What does this mean and how is it used in the sentence? A pecipice is a cliff that has a strait drop-off. It is used in the sentance as a way to express that Reynie feels like he is in the edge of death.
3. Why were Reynie, Kate and Constance trying to climb the wall? They were trying to climb the gym wall to see what the executives did in the gym.
4. Again, it mentions the "improvement." Any clues as to what this might be? I think it might mean that Mr. Curtian has now turned the power up to full on the machine, so there might be no way to stop him.
5. On page 282, the word "ominous" is used. What does this word mean and how is it used in the sentence?
6. Describe Sticky as he came out of the Waiting Room. Sticky was covered in mud, and dead bugs, and he was covered from head to toe in dirt.
7. Why wouldn't Sticky talk after he came out? He couldn't talk when he got out because he was still in shock that they would do that to him.
8. List the main characters and what they have to offer to a "team." Why might this be important to the rest of the book? (Reynie, Constance, Kate and Sticky) Reynie is a natural leader. He comes up with plans. Constance is prone to receiving Mr. Curtain's messages. Kate is fierce and unexpected. She has well needed strength. Sticky can remember everything he sees, for proof.
9. What was the main idea for this chapter? Give two supporting details. The main idea of this chapter is now the children have know what happens in the waiting room, and they have to stop it. They also need to find out why they do that, and they need to get into the waiting room.

1. What was the dilemma that Sticky was facing with Mr. Curtain? What would you have done? The delemma that Sticky was facing was that if he would lie, he would risk getting caught, and if he told the truth, the Society would be busted.
2. State Mr. Curtain's view on the idea of "control."
3. Why do you think that Sticky got off the hook for cheating and Reynie got off the hook for lying? I think he got off the hook because Mr. Curtain likes children, so he would forgive Sticky.
4, On page 304 it states that Martina's face, "shone with malevolence," what does this mean and how does that apply to this sentence? This means that Martina was shocked ansd angry at the same time, so she had a twisted face.
5. Why would Martina be promoted to Executive? Give reasons and your thinking as to why. I think the reason she got promoted to executive is because Mr. Curtian needed one more executive, and he needed to brainwash her so no evidence would leak out.
6. What does it mean when Mr. Curtain says that the "best way of dealing with those you don't trust is to keep them close." Reynie said this and now so has Mr. Curtain - what do you think this means for the both of them? Before Reynie joined the Society, he was left out, he had lots of enemys. Mr. Curtian, is alone and gouing nuts. He has lots of enemys. I am thinking that Mr. Curtian might be losing trust in Reynie.
7. Why did Mr. Curtain make Sticky and Reynie messengers? Since Martina moved on, and that Sticky had to go through he waiting room, as a apology he made them messangers.

1. At the beginning of the chapter, Reynie has a dream. What do you think the dream means?
2. On page 314, it states that Reynie and Sticky shook hands "resolutely," what does this mean and how does it fit into the sentence? They shook hands like they were hugging eachother, but that would be odd so they emotionally shook hands.
3. On page 315, Jackson refers to Sticky or George as "dimwitted," what does this mean and how does it fit into the sentence? Dimwitted means not smart, and Jackson was teasing them and mocking how smart he was.
4. Why couldn't the boys know the way to the Whispering Gallery? The boys didn't know the way because they were blindfolded, so the didn't know the way.
5. Describe the Whispering Gallery. The whispering gallery is a place that dosen't have a lot of furnature, or anything that could be used as a weapon against the whisperer.
6. On page 317, it states that the Whispering Gallery is so "austere," what does this mean? It means that it was very strict and kept in shape for the messangers.
7. Again the idea of control comes up over and over, why? This idea is being brought back often because in order to make the whisperer work, it needs perfect control.
8. Describe what The Whispering can do and not do. The whisperer can almost take over your mind, it makes you feel good, it is an unresisting machine. However, in order for it to work, you need control of Mr. Benedict's mind for it to work.
9. On page 319, when Renyie states that, "They go down easier, like candy rather than medicine." What is he talking about? He is talking about how the whisperer controls you, it is easy to do and unresisting.
10. On page 319 it refers to "inputting data," what is this? It means that they are putting in data from Reynie to let the whisperer begin.
11. On page 321, it states, "poison apples, poison worms," again - now what is this referring to? Why is this phrase repeated throughout the book? It is referring to that idea again because in a good way, you are poisoning the small idea, which poisons the big thing.
12. On the last page of The Whisperer" it ends with Sticky saying, "Not being wanted, not being wanted at all," what was the question? The question was what was his bigest fear, and Sticky had been put through that when his parents abandoned him.
13. Why didn't Reynie want to sit and eat with the rest of the messengers? What excuse did he give the messenger? Reynie didn't want to sit with messangers because he didn't want to leave constance and Kate out, and he wanted to tell them information. He told the messangers that he had a stomach virus.
14. On page 333, when Constance says that Reynie is "on," what does this mean? Constance means that Reynie seems to be doing everything right, and now the Society feels like nothing can stop them.
15. How do we know that Mr. Curtain will be done with the Messengers after "the Improvement?" We know that he wont need the messangers because they run the whisperer, or the brainwashing equitment.
16. What are the clues about the trap? The clues about the trap is that the card says turn OVER, so there is something not right.
17. How did the kids figure out the code? The kids figured out the code by turning the card upside down, which reveiled the code.

1. Why is this chapter called "Practice Makes Perfect?" This chapter is called Practice Makes Perfect because the Socieety had learned a lot, but Mr. Curtian almost found them, so they were able to fit in a box, so they practiced, which is now perfect.
2. Why would the government press releases be dated for the future? These articles would be dated to the future becuse it is a plan, to have an idea on what to do.
3. What does the article and page 346/347 mean? The article means that this is what Mr. Curtian wants, to rule the world.
4. Why would Mr. Curtain want to create fear in everyone? Mr. Curtian would want to create fear among people so the Mr. Curtian could comfort them, so they would have to go to them.
5. Why would Mr. Curtain want to put together an Amnesia Sanctuary? Mr. Curtian put together an Amnesia Sanctuary because it could be a cover-up for his operation.
6. Why is this chapter called, "Know Thine Enemy?" This chapter is called No Thine Enemy because the Society thought that Milligan was an enemy, but he was mistaken, and now they must leave.
7. What is the "memory terminal?"

2. What is Morse code? Who invented this communication system and what was it used for? Morse code is a system that involves dots and dash's to communicate. For example, A in morse code is .-. It is mostly ussed for communication for world war one and two. Samual Morse was the inventor of Morse code.
3. Mr. Benedict on page 119 states, "Whether you always agree is inconsequential,..." What does this mean? How does this fit into the definition of a team? I think it means that agreeing is important, because on their own, they are harmless. This fits into the team because they tend to argue a lot.
4. When Sticky tells about his background, he says that philanthropists began sending his parents money, what are philanthropists? It also says that Sticky was astonished and mortified - about what? Philanthropists are people who study human welfare. He was astonished at how his parents treated him, to make them rich. They didn't care about Sticky.

3. Describe Jackson and Jillson. What do you think their role is in this book? I think there roll is in the book is to supervise what goes on around the school.
4. On page 160 it states that Kate was, "trying to prove she didn't need anyone's help and this was easiest to believe when she was doing what she was good at." What do you think this means? I think it means in order for Kate to prove herself, she had to do something she was good at, and that's what she did.
5. The end of the chapter ends with a cliff-hanger. What is a cliff-hanger and why it important? A cliif-hanger is where at the end of a chapter an writer gives us lots of suspense. These are important so the reader is itching to read on.

6. Why do you think there was a trap disguised with a plant on top? Do you think this will be important later in the book? What is that called when an author gives you clues as to what is going to occur further into the book? It is called inffering. We can infer that that trap was a trap, not a mind shaft, because they wouldn't disguise the traps.

3. What clues are mentioned in the book that might suggest that the new arrivals might have been kidnapped? Use text evidence in your answer. In the book they were saying that there were new arrivals every day, however, they seemed like they were brain washed.
4. Describe Mr. Curtain. Mr. Curtain is the exact same as Mr. Benedict, except in a wheel chair.
5. Could Mr. Curtain and Mr. Benedict be the same person? That would be impossible because they saw Mr. Curtain in the plaza and they were sending a message to Mr. Benedict.
6. Why would everything be backwards at the institute? What might their reasons for this be? That is a possibility, since good is the opposite of bad, that could be true. I believe since the senders are using Reverse Psychology, which reverse is the opposite of forward, or Regular Psychology.

8. What is a cryptic message and why would this be important? A cryptic message is a message that is a riddle so that if someone finds and decodes the society's messages they wont know what it means.

I think the reason she was astonished because since most the students at the school are brainwashed, so no one has lots of intelligence at the school. 5. How does fruit fit in with the discussion of taxes, war, health, the justice system.....? The apple represents the people. When the government goes bad the apple goes bad, and vise versa.

They are used around the world for creating electricity,water spins the turbine creating electricity. They could be used at the island for that reason.

2. On page 277 it says, "precipice." What does this mean and how is it used in the sentence? A pecipice is a cliff that has a strait drop-off. It is used in the sentance as a way to express that Reynie feels like he is in the edge of death.
3. Why were Reynie, Kate and Constance trying to climb the wall? They were trying to climb the gym wall to see what the executives did in the gym.
4. Again, it mentions the "improvement." Any clues as to what this might be? I think it might mean that Mr. Curtian has now turned the power up to full on the machine, so there might be no way to stop him.

11. On page 321, it states, "poison apples, poison worms," again - now what is this referring to? Why is this phrase repeated throughout the book? It is referring to that idea again because in a good way, you are poisoning the small idea, which poisons the big thing.
12. On the last page of The Whisperer" it ends with Sticky saying, "Not being wanted, not being wanted at all," what was the question? The question was what was his bigest fear, and Sticky had been put through that when his parents abandoned him.
13. Why didn't Reynie want to sit and eat with the rest of the messengers? What excuse did he give the messenger? Reynie didn't want to sit with messangers because he didn't want to leave constance and Kate out, and he wanted to tell them information. He told the messangers that he had a stomach virus.
14. On page 333, when Constance says that Reynie is "on," what does this mean? Constance means that Reynie seems to be doing everything right, and now the Society feels like nothing can stop them.
15. How do we know that Mr. Curtain will be done with the Messengers after "the Improvement?" We know that he wont need the messangers because they run the whisperer, or the brainwashing equitment.
16. What are the clues about the trap? The clues about the trap is that the card says turn OVER, so there is something not right.

1. Why is this chapter called "Practice Makes Perfect?" This chapter is called Practice Makes Perfect because the Socieety had learned a lot, but Mr. Curtian almost found them, so they were able to fit in a box, so they practiced, which is now perfect.
2. Why would the government press releases be dated for the future? These articles would be dated to the future becuse it is a plan, to have an idea on what to do.
3. What does the article and page 346/347 mean? The article means that this is what Mr. Curtian wants, to rule the world.
4. Why would Mr. Curtain want to create fear in everyone? Mr. Curtian would want to create fear among people so the Mr. Curtian could comfort them, so they would have to go to them.

2. Why was Reynie so afraid of "betraying?" Reynie was afraid of betraying because the whisperer could make you believe anything, so it could persuade you to be on Mr. Cutians's side.
3. Why was Reynie doubting himself? Reynie was doubting himself because he knew he could fall into comant with the whisperer, so he was doubting.
4. Why was Reynie sending Mr. Benedict a message? I think the reason that Reynie sent Mr. Benedict a message was because Mr. Benedict puts Reynie at ease.
5. What was the message that Mr. Benedict sent back? The message was remember the whight knight,.
6. What did the message mean? It means that Reynie is doubting himself, so he needs to get more confidence
7. How did Kate get into the elevator? Kate distracted Jackson, who was guarding the elevators, and she hit him witha marble, which distracted him, so she was able to get on.
